CAT ADOPTION HABITAT

September 2019• Bellevue College, Washington• Conceptual Project

I had a mission when conceiving this project. One, repurpose underutilized space on the Bellevue College campus and two, give students a space that would truly help them reduce stress. It occurred to me what reduces my stress - spending time with my cat! This gave me a great idea. To team up with the Feline Rescue Center and give them a space on campus where students could not only come visit the cats when they needed some friendly feline companionship but could also adopt a fuzzy roommate to complete their lives. This space is meant to give the cats a space to be athletic and dynamic creatures, but it also cleverly hides away pesky liter, provides cozy tucked away spaces for cats to rest, plenty of fresh greenery, and space for humans to come to hang with. I want to give the cats a sense of agency too. If they do not feel like being out in the public, they can tuck themselves away, or rest up high in a sunny spot in the window. But if they do want to hang with their potential fuzzy family member to-be, there is a space for that to happen too. Ultimately this was intended to be a space to benefit all. And me? Well you know I am the first to visit• S
